Tip = Bill × Tip% ÷ 100 Total = Bill + Tip Per person = Total ÷ People

An $85 bill with an 18% tip: $15.30 tip, $100.30 total, $50.15 each for two.
A $42.50 bill at 20%: $8.50 tip, $51.00 total.
A $230 dinner for 4 at 15%: $34.50 tip, $66.13 each.

Should I tip on the total before or after tax?
Etiquette guides commonly suggest tipping on the pre-tax subtotal. Enter the subtotal as the bill amount if you prefer that.
What is a typical tip in the US?
For table service, 15–20% is common, with 20% increasingly standard. Customs vary by service and region.
Why might the per-person amounts not add up exactly?
Each share is rounded to the nearest cent. When the total doesn’t divide evenly, the shares can be off by a cent in total.
