02What each option does

Remove extra spaces   two or more spaces become one
Trim each line        removes spaces at the start and end of lines
Remove blank lines    deletes lines that are empty
Normalize whitespace  converts tabs and non-breaking spaces to
                      normal spaces; removes zero-width characters
Join into one paragraph  replaces line breaks with spaces

Text copied from a PDF often has broken line breaks; Join into one paragraph turns it back into flowing text.

Non-breaking spaces from web pages are replaced so search and replace works normally.

“Hello world” becomes “Hello world”.

04Frequently asked questions

What are zero-width characters?

Invisible characters that can be copied from web pages and documents. They can break searches and code, so normalizing removes them.

Will it change my punctuation or words?

No. Only whitespace and invisible characters are changed.

Does it keep paragraph breaks?

With Remove blank lines on, paragraphs end up on consecutive lines. Turn it off to keep blank lines between paragraphs.
